“Liquidate the workers, liquidate the farmers, purge the rottenness”

Barack Obama's proposed 3-year spending freeze is channeling the worst economic advice given to Herbert Hoover. Paul Krugman comments on the lunacy of the freeze in a blog post titled "Obama liquidates himself."
It’s bad economics, depressing demand when the economy is still suffering from mass unemployment. Jonathan Zasloff writes that Obama seems to have decided to fire Tim Geithner and replace him with “the rotting corpse of Andrew Mellon” (Mellon was Herbert Hoover’s Treasury Secretary, who according to Hoover told him to “liquidate the workers, liquidate the farmers, purge the rottenness”.)
We did not go to the polls in 2008 to elect a dead Republican. Contact the White House and let them know what you think of this plan for political suicide.

but the best part of the proposed spending freeze are the EXEMPT departments / programs - specifically the Department of Death & Destruction, fka Department of War, nka Department of Defense.

and Department of Homeland Security is also exempt.

that is some exemption that i can get behind.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm never voting again. The discrepancy between what was promised (an intelligent, decent president) and what has been delivered (a warmongering tool of the financial industry, who was evidently never that interested in reforming health care anyway) with this president is just too vast to even comprehend.

Randy Newman's song "Mr. President (Have Pity on the Working Man)" increasingly sums up my feelings. Who knows, maybe we'll end up with a Huey Long-like figure in the White House.

This is what we get voting for a clown!
