Flag flies over the green muck of Monona Bay
The never-ending battle to control the growth of weeds and algae in the Madison lakes sometimes seems like one long holding action against the inevitable.

Lakes are ephemeral, becoming eventually meadows.
In a small number of generations, the great reservoirs on the Colorado and Missouri will become reservoirs of sediment, and then sloughs, and then meadows.
