With new, sleazy 9/11 attack ad against Tammy Baldwin, Thompson seems determined to go out a total loser

Tommy Thompson is working hard to trash the last vestiges of respect that many in Wisconsin once had for their former governor.  His new ad attacking Tammy Baldwin for voting against a 9/11 memorial resolution is a new low.

The resolution in question was a 2006 election year exercise in sleazy politics by the GOP. They loaded up a fifth anniversary 9/11 memorial resolution with endorsements of Bush administration policies to put Democrats into a political trap where they could be criticized no matter how they voted. Tammy Baldwin did the honorable thing. She voted against it. As she explained:
"This bill was cynically transformed from a memorial resolution to an endorsement of President Bush's failed policies. The Republicans show enormous disrespect to the 9/11 victims and families by playing election year politics with something as solemn as the fifth anniversary of 9/11; I will vote against the bill."
The "old Tommy" was a formidable campaigner, but he would never have done this. But he changed after he went to Washington. It's also a tactic that smacks of desperation and may well backfire -- people might start looking more closely at Thompson's own 9/11 record. They won't like what they see.
